We at Roots LA have proudly built a reputation as a trusted Los Angeles dispensary. That’s all thanks to our most loyal patrons who’ve been supportive throughout these years. And as a show of gratitude, we’re here to give you some tips, this time on how to shorten your weed-drying time.
This method is particularly for growers who are dealing with damp buds right after harvest. Drying is an essential step to help avoid mold growth which could render your buds useless and all your hard work futile.
Drying weed by letting oxygen do its thing takes about three to four weeks. But by using these methods, you can save a significant amount of time.
Using Your Trusty Oven
This method takes the least amount of time. Drying weed in the oven takes a mere 10 minutes, but the caveat here is that the extreme heat could destroy the bud’s precious terpenes. You’ll then be left with a dud batch that’s pretty much useless.
Terpenes get destroyed once buds are exposed beyond 70°F (21°C). Keep a watchful eye on it and if you can, take it off the heat around the eight-minute mark. Leave it out in the open for an extra ten minutes of drying.
The Paper Bag Method
The paper bag method is self-explanatory. Take a handful of your moist buds and place it in a paper bag, which you’ll then leave in a cool, dry, and dark place for at least five days.
As you can see, it is a bit more time-consuming compared to the oven method, but you don’t run the risk of overheating and destroying the bud’s quality.
Relying On Sunlight
Allowing sunlight to do the work is another method you can try. However, if you choose to go with this method, make sure that the buds aren’t exposed to direct sunlight. You can do this by hanging a sheet of tarp over them. This also acts as an added protection from nature’s harsh elements.
When drying your weed using sunlight, give it up to five days. You can then leave it out for another two days of drying, but you can do this indoors where temperatures are more favorable.
