So you’ve decided to visit a cannabis dispensary in Los Angeles. Recreational marijuana has been legal for years now, and you’re looking to see how things are these days. And especially if you’re a first-time visitor, you probably think it’s merely barging in and checking stuff out, just like how you would in your neighborhood candy store.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Believe it or not, there is proper etiquette to follow when visiting a dispensary. There are some important dos and don’ts to keep in mind, which many of you are likely unfamiliar with, and that’s OK. Know Your Purchasing Limits
The state of California has a purchasing limit of eight ounces of marijuana for medical purposes and up to an ounce for recreational use. For concentrates, you can buy up to eight grams.
No matter how much money you have with you, dispensary owners won’t allow you to purchase beyond these limits. Don’t try to force the issue because all those efforts will turn out futile, guaranteed.
Don’t Forget Your ID
Just like how it is when buying alcohol, you have to be at least 21 years of age. And just like how it is in bars or liquor stores, you will be asked for an ID. Failure to present one would bar you from making a purchase.
The same protocols apply in dispensaries. Even if you obviously are a day to your 40th birthday, you will be asked for an ID. No ifs, and, or buts. Likewise, don’t try to argue your way out of it because you will never win.
Have Some Cash With You
While cannabis may be legal in the state, it is still prohibited on a federal level. That means financial institutions won’t accept any transaction involving marijuana.
That said, dispensaries will only accept cash transactions for the most part. Some may find a way to skirt around these rules and have you pay via some online platform, but to be on the safe side, just have some cash with you.
Know Your Designated Smoking Spots
If you think you’ll be permitted to spark up within the dispensary vicinity, you’re sadly mistaken. You’ll only be allowed to smoke in designated spots where cigarettes are also allowed. You can’t do it freely in open spaces, especially with children around.
So don’t try to light up that newly-bought joint outside of the dispensary because that can get them in trouble.
